Drawing on the Gemara, Rashi, and Breslov Torah, this article explores the two spiritual meanings of dirt: the holy humility connected to techiyat ha-meitim, tefillin, and Eretz Yisrael, and the fallen humility of sadness and laziness upon which the Serpent feeds.
